The
term Rolfing refers to a system of body education and physical
manipulation originally created by Dr. Ida P. Rolf after 50 years of study
and practice. Over the past 30 years since Dr. Rolf’s death Rolfing has
provided
relief to tens of thousands of people with conditions including
poor posture, back pain, joint restrictions, fibromyalgia, chronic
fatigue, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome and other repetitive strain
injuries.

Rolfing is a type of manual therapy that focuses on the balance and
alignment
of
the body, based on theories that misalignment in one part of
the body, will
create misalignment in the rest of the body. Over time, the
body’s entire
structure can weaken, leading to pain, stiffness, or
dysfunction. Through manipulation of muscle and connective tissue, Rolfers
reorganize, lengthen,
and re-integrate the body to wholeness and health.
“When the body
gets working appropriately, the force of gravity can
flow through. Then
spontaneously, the body heals itself."
Ida P.Rolf, PhD

The Rolfing Ten Series
involves ten sessions,
each ranging from 70-80 minutes.
Each session has specific goals
to address a particular
segment of the body as well as the ‘overall goals’
(decided by the
Rolfer and client) of the series.
Rolfing
cannot accurately be described as a therapy or as a returning
of
the body to a
‘natural’ state from which it has deteriorated. Rather, it
is a process of education in
which a Rolfer seeks to help a client discover
the most
efficient way of using her/his body, given the limitations,
liabilities and virtues of that body.
All sessions are
conducted by Michael Pellegrino, Certified Rolfer . These
may include techniques of
physical manipulation,
movement education, fitness exercises, and advice
on changes in the home and
work environments.
